Don Miguel Ruiz
Below are the lessons I learned from The Four Agreements book.
1. Be Impeccable with your word
A word can create heaven or hell. A word can be a white magic or black magic to someone. You can use words to send love to someone or to create hell for someone.
Author talks about self talk too. He said everything you feel, believe or say that goes against yourself is a sin. Do not use your words against yourself. Self-rejection is the biggest sin you can commit. Always take responsibility of your actions and never blame or judge yourself.
2. Don’t take anything personally
You are expressing your divinity by being alive and loving yourself and others. You don’t need acceptance of others.
If someone comes and tell you that you are stupid. There are pouring out a poison to you. Now you have a choice, to take it or not. If you agree to them, “maybe I am stupid” It means they have caught you . You eaten the poison. If you are offended, reacting, fighting back and having an argument with them, it means you have eaten their poison.
What author is telling is that whatever they say are according to their agreements and programming. It has nothing to do with us. They are trying to throw their emotional garbage to us and we have a choice to expect it or not.
To be strong in this area. We must captivate self love. Be content with yourself, loving yourself and everything around you.
3. Dont make assumptions
Never gossip. We must accept other people the way they are without trying to change them. We should ask more questions and be clear and never assume you know about a situation. Always find your voice to ask for what you want.
4. Always do your best
Doing your best means, you are doing what you able to do and you do not do less and you don not over do. Doing your best means you take action.
Do your best in cleaning the dishes, do your best in cleaning, do your best in bathing, giving yourself to the family, community,do your best in everything you do daily. By doing your best you are living intensely, you will be productive and you are going to be good for yourself. You do with love not for reward. You won’t have regrets because you did your best.
When you do something with love and full or enjoyment without attaching to any reward you might receive something more than you can imagine.
